This Meinl 10-inch pandeiro has an ABS plastic frame and a black Napa drumhead. It sounds warm and boasts low-frequency tones in particular. It has six pairs of steel jingles which provide a bright, high pitch and any unwanted overtones are quickly reduced so that your fast, rhythmic patterns are able to cut through the mix. Thanks to a 3/8-inch eyelet clamp, you can easily mount this pandeiro onto any standard 3/8-inch percussion stand and integrate it into your current setup.

The difference between a tambourine and a pandeiro

Both the tambourine and the pandeiro belong to the family of frame drums; however, a pandeiro has a tunable membrane so you can adjust the pitch, whereas a tambourine does not. What's more, a pandeiro produces fewer overtones than a tambourine. Another important difference lies in the jingles that are used. A tambourine usually has flat jingles while a pandeiro has domed ones that produce a shorter, sharper, drier sound so you can play complex (Brazilian) rhythms with optimal clarity.

Frame drums

Every region, country and continent has its own type of frame drum. Some have jingles while others don't, but all frame drums have a membrane. A tambourine without a membrane is known as a beat ring. Other examples of frame drums are the Irish bodhrán, the Indian kanjira, the Russian Buben, the North-African Bendir and Tar, and the Scandinavian Sami drum. The pandeiro originates from Brazil, while the tambourine comes from Europe. The most important differences between all these different frame drums have to do with the how the drumhead is made, the shape of the jingles, and of course the playing technique.
